Edith Muchmore Obituary

Edith Gloria Muchmore (nee Pfeil), age 95, passed away on Friday March 8, 2024 at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick.

Born in Hoboken, NJ, to Eric and Edith Pfeil, she was raised in Wood-Ridge, NJ.  Her grandfather, Paul Pfeil, served on the Kaiser’s yacht as a chef and then became an internationally known violin maker and her Uncle, Albert “Victor” Pfeil, was credited with inventing the electric violin.  In 1948, she married her high school sweetheart, Edward Raymond Muchmore, before moving to and residing in Clark for 50 years. “Edie” and “Eddie” raised four children in their 63 years of marriage.

She worked as a manager at R. H. Donnelley of New York City, a directory & information publishing company, but then stopped to raise a family where she was devoted to her children.  She was a “Soccer Mom” before that even came into our vernacular but also a baseball, gymnastics, basketball, football and wrestling Mom.  Edie followed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in whatever sport they played and attended every event she could.

Later on, she resumed her career at Orval Kent Food Co. of East Rutherford, NJ in Customer Service for over 25 years and then retired.   In 2000, Edie lovingly became a devoted nanny to one of her grandchildren for five years.   Then the tireless worker started employment again as a salesperson and bookkeeper for Winterhill Antiques in Scotch Plains, NJ until she was 87.

She was an indefatigable worker, remarkable, loyal, strong, warm, caring, fun, hospitable, generous, dedicated and encouraging.  She always put others first and gave to everyone around her.  Later in life, she persevered through her physical troubles, even dragging her oxygen machine to graduations, work and nonprofit organizations as well as visiting others in need.

Edie loved serving with others for NAMI/Union County.  A longtime parishioner of Osceola Presbyterian Church of Clark, she also served there as a Deacon and quietly followed her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a Girl Scout Leader, active in the Crusader Club, and an avid volunteer in the Clark community over the years.

She is survived by her four children: Deborah E. Scott (Jay), Edward H. Muchmore, Eric W. Muchmore (Marietta), Bonnie M. Netschert (Frederick); Eight grandchildren: Christa, Nicole, Julianna, Daniel, Zachary, Elizabeth, Christina, and Jacqueline and nine great grandchildren.
